Students at 74th Street are active music makers.
In music class they sing, move, play instruments, read music scores, study different composers, and view other musician performances via the internet. Students incorporate Team Building and Performing Ensemble skills as well as Whole Body Listening strategies during class. Honors Chorus singers and Music Club members enjoy weekly rehearsals. Band practice is also available for musically committed students who wish to play a modern band instrument and hone their performance skills through a program called Little Kids Rock. Selected fifth grade choristers also perform at the Pinellas County All-County Music Festival held annually in the spring. Students in second through fifth grade are given the opportunity to learn the soprano recorder. Recorder instruction usually begins during the second or third grading quarter of the year. All recorder students are encouraged to own their own instrument and practice at home. School instruments are also available to play one. All Students in grades K-5 can participate in two school wide performances each year, one in the winter and one in the spring allowing students to showcase some of what they learn in class. Our Concerts are usually scheduled during the months of December and May each year and are often performed at Boca Ciega High School auditorium which provides a delightful performing art experience for the entire school family to enjoy. Students and their families can use this web page to access information about each music class and speciality music groups at our school. Also forms, letters, and some music and recordings are available on this site. Please explore and enjoy the music! |
